AIS redesigns funding for elite athletes

Australia's best athletes will benefit from a newly designed Direct Athlete Support program.

A redesigned Direct Athlete Support (DAS) program will provide support for around 200 more of Australia‚Äôs emerging athletes in addition to approximately 450 athletes already benefiting from the program. 

Australian Sports Commission Chairman John Wylie outlined the importance of direct athlete support for elite athletes during his address at the Australian Olympic Committee  annual general meeting on Saturday 10 May. 

The AIS will invest, from existing resources, an additional $1.6 million per annum into supporting Olympic and Paralympic athletes directly.   

The redesigned DAS program will include a new category of athlete support for emerging athletes, to ensure young talent is supported on their journey.
