Fellowship

APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2012 FELLOWSHIP WILL OPEN IN AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2011

Each year, AIS Sports Nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) offers a Fellowship in Sports Nutrition. The Fellowship is based in Canberra and is for a 2 year period.

The Fellowship is offered to qualified dietitians who are interested in pursuing a career in sports nutrition. Selection is based on personal qualities as well as a proven level of academic or professional excellence. Applicants able to demonstrate a strong interest in developing their professional skills in sports nutrition are highly desired.

  • Planning and implementing a nutrition program for AIS teams
  • Clinical counselling to athletes over a range of ages, sports and skill level
  • Presentations to groups of athletes, coaches, sports scientists and peers

  • Writing for lay publications
  • Preparation of education materials
  • Answering public enquiries
  • Providing food service support through the AIS dining hall to travelling teams/groups
  • Working on projects for commercial partners/sponsors

  • Support to undertake the IOC Diploma in Sports Nutrition

Eligibility

Candidacy is open to qualified dietitians and is directed to dietitians with at least one year of dietetic experience. Candidates must be a member of DAA and be able to demonstrate a commitment to APD and SDA continuing education schemes. Sports nutrition experience is highly desirable.

Candidates must be Australian citizens.

Tenure

The Fellowship is for a two year period.

Fellows will not be permitted to perform services for an employer from whom they are on paid or unpaid leave of absence, nor accept any other grant, commission, or appointment, paid or unpaid, without the prior permission of the Director, Australian Institute of Sport.
