Change the Game

The Change the Game program connects Australian female athletes with talented business executives - it focuses on creating more corporate experiences for female athletes, providing personal leadership development, growing talent to stretch performance and improving gender diversity in sport and business.

Change the Game was established in 2015 through a partnership between the AIS and Bluescope. The program has been designed to provide a highly experiential and challenging learning environment where participants are presented with opportunities to exchange diverse experiences and perspectives to build their personal leadership capacity and expand mindsets beyond sport and business and from personal to global contexts.

In particular, athletes are given opportunities to learn how their skills can transfer and be applied to a business context, develop new strategies to support key events and transitions and make connections with a view to how they manage their career both during and post sport

Program overview

Change the Game connects female athletes with talented emerging business leaders for mutual learning and development across a 12 month period. Three face to face workshops will be delivered in partnership with Melbourne Business School, and participants will be encouraged to have regular contact and connection points between the workshops, bringing back their individual learning to the whole group.

Female athletes who wish to participate in this program will be identified through an application and selection process. All sports are eligible to apply including Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and Professional sports. We hope to identify a diverse group of athletes with a wide range of talents, capabilities and aspirations.

A high level overview of the program is provided below:

  • Theme 1: Foundations of Success

This theme will focus on the shared obsession with the pursuit of excellence and high performance found in both the high performance sport and corporate business sectors. It will lay the foundations for leadership development, the fostering of innovative partnerships and communication skills, including the ability to have game changing conversations.
  • Theme 2: Change Journey

This theme will explore the change journey as a process for understanding growth, development and the pursuit of excellence. Key topics include strategic decision making, transformational habits of mind and building lateral connections to stretch development and share learning to change the game.

  • Theme 3: Growth and Achievement

This theme will explore the barriers to growth and achievement including personal readiness to adapt and commitment to continuous change and improvement. Key topics include the inner critic and inner coach, ego health, personal belief systems and identifying the potential opportunities to partner to change the game.
