Basketball "2002 & 2003" Graduate Aleks Maric Earns 1st Team All District Honours

03 Apr 2009

2002 & 2003 AIS Graduate and current Nebraska senior center Aleks Maric earned the first of what will likely become several postseason awards as he was selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District First Team earlier this week.
Maric is one of five Big 12 players selected to the first team for District 12, joining Kansas’ Brandon Rush and Mario Chalmers, Kansas State’s Michael Beasley and Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin.

For Maric, it is the second NABC honor of his career after being selected to the all-district second team last year.
Maric is the first Husker to earn first-team honors by the NABC since Venson Hamilton earned the honor in 1999, the same season he was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year.

Maric is averaging 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, one of only three players in the Big 12 Conference averaging a double-double this season.
Beasley and Damion James of Texas, a second-team selection for District 9, are the other two.

Maric also is second in the league in field-goal percentage by hitting 57.3 percent from the floor, and is fourth in the conference in blocked shots per game (1.61).
He has also posted career highs in assists (47) and steals (34) while setting the league record for career double-doubles in conference-only games with 25.
He is currently second on the NU career rebounds chart (959), seventh in blocked shots (133) and eighth in points (1,559).

Maric will be honored by the Nebraska basketball program on Senior Day on Sunday, March 9.
