Basketball AIS Win 1st Game of Season

03 Apr 2009

A sensational first half has seen the AIS Men’s Basketball Team post a solid Round 1 road victory over the Albury/Wodonga Bandits, 120 – 109.

The Institute kids started strongly with some hot first quarter shooting producing a 38-17 lead at the first change. With Bandit Andrew Rice looking dangerous inside, the AIS looked to run and score in transition as much as possible, a strategy that paid dividends.

Nothing much changed in the second period with more hot shooting and stifling defensive pressure from the students only allowing the Bandits to shoot a meagre 38% from the field.

The Bandits lifted their intensity in the second half, slowly chipping away at the deficit but the kids held strong, with Shane Harris-Tunks providing solid interior scoring and Jorden Page and Matthew Dellavedova lively on the perimeter.

Top Scorers:

 Shane Harris-Tunks 19pts

Matt Dellavedova 13 pts

Jorden Page 12 pts, 7 rebs

Hugh Greenwood 13

Cody Ellis 12 pts

Ryan Broekhoff 10pts
