The NTID Boxing Team has completed its whirlwind five day tour of New Zealand. 

In Te Awamutu, just south of Hamilton, the team did itself proud with 8 from 11 athletes winning their bouts. 

The highlight of the night was AIS athlete Sam Blyth’s (81kg) win over New Zealand World Championship representative, Zig Zag Wallace. 

The bout was tightly contested with there being only a maximum 1 point difference between the two boxers for most of the fight. 

Blyth finished strongly after being down 11:12 with a minute to go to win 15:12.

Luke Johnson (NSW) lost to Kyle Merewether 10:15 (81kg)
Gavin Reid (ACT) defeated Tino Honey 22:13 (81kg Youth category)
Michael Sacco (NT) lost to Sam Rapira 49:16 (81kg)
Gareth Bamin (AIS/Qld) defeated Joseph Parker 18:9 (91+kg)
John Squillace (WA) defeated James Emerson 29:7 (91kg)
Sam Blyth (AIS/WA) defeated Zig Zag Wallace 15:12 (81kg)

World Junior Boxing Championships

NTID Boxing athlete, Joseph Nicholls has concluded the World Junior Boxing Championships with a Bronze Medal. 

Nicholls lost to Georgia in the Semi-final 8:4 to claim Bronze.  This is a fantastic result for Joseph as well as Coach Don Abnett (AIS/NTID Head Coach) who was also the coach of the Australian team.
