The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS)/National Talent Identification and Development (NTID) boxing squad have returned from the prestigious Kings Cup International Boxing Tournament, which took place 3–10 April 2009 in Bangkok, with some excellent results.

Sam Blyth and Sam Ah-See both fought with strength and maturity during their bouts to reach the finals in their respective categories.

Blyth comfortably progressed through the 81kg division opening round and overpowered his semi-final opponent, ending the fight early in the second round. The AIS boxer was beaten in the final and took home the silver medal.

Ah-See had a great start in the 69kg class, winning the opening round 26–19 and semi-final 16–10, but also just missed out on the gold medal.

Timacoy Williams (60kg), Dylan Perkins (48kg) and Damien Hooper (75kg) were beaten by their opponents prior to the semi-final stage.

The Kings Cup has given the AIS/NTID boxers invaluable experience of international competition and the chance to learn from Thai and Filipino Olympic boxers.
