The Australian Kookaburras men’s hockey team has thrashed South Africa 12 to 0, in a dominant performance, recording the biggest win in the history of the World Cup, which is being held in New Delhi from 28 February to 13 March.

While South Africa had the first shot on goal in the game — through a penalty corner which was blocked by defender Kiel Brown — Australia hit back strongly in attack.

Australian striker Luke Doerner scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute.

Australia scored four more goals in 15 minutes — one by Glenn Turner in the 20th minute and Des Abbott in 26th minute, one by Luke Doerner from a penalty corner and one by Fergus Kavanagh — taking Australia’s lead: 5 to 0 after the first half.
In the second half, Australia continued to dominate play with seven more goals — one by Matthew Butturini in the 44th minute, two by Jamie Dwyer in the 52nd and 54th minutes, another by Doerner through a penalty corner in the 49th minute and one by Turner in the 62nd minute.
Impressively, Doerner capped off the win, scoring two more goals for Australia in the 66th and 68th minute being named man of the match with five goals.
Australia defeated India 5—2 in its second World Cup match on 3 March.

It has been a strong comeback for the Kookaburras after being defeated 3–2 by England in its first match of the World Cup.

Australia plays its next match against Spain in the World Cup on Saturday 6 March.
