2006

  • 4th Year as AIS Canberra Darters competing in Commonwealth Bank Trophy
  • AIS scholarship holder Susan Fuhrmann was selected into the Australian Open Netball team which subsequently won a silver medal at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
  • 2006 Commonwealth Games silver medal-winning team consisted of 7 former AIS netball scholarship holders; Natalie Avellino (1989-91),  Catherine Cox (1995), Megan Dehn (nee Anderson, 1994)), Susan Fuhrmann (2004-06), Janine Ilitch (nee Lynch, 1993), Susan Pratley (2003-05) and Natalie von Bertouch (2001)
  • 2006 Anne Clarke Scholarship Award Winner - Clare McMeniman
  • 2006 Gweneth Benzie Award Winner - Kasey Stanaway
  • 2006 AIS Canberra Darters Player of the Year - Kasey Stanaway

2005

  • 3rd year as AIS Canberra Darters competing in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy.
  • 2005 World Youth Cup was held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA . The Australian 21 & U team were all 2005 AIS Netball scholarship holders. Australia finished 3rd.

2004

  • 2nd year as AIS Canberra Darters competing in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy.
  • Kirby Mutton, Kate Beveridge, Chelsey Nash, Pia McGeoch, Joanne Sutton, Susan Fuhrmann, Brooke Thompson, Julie Prendergast and Bianca Franklin were all chosen to represent Australia in the 21 & U team.

2003

  • AIS Canberra Darters gained entry into the Commonwealth Bank Trophy
  • Bianca Reddy, Jackie Murphy, Susan Pratley, Carla Dziwoki, Lauren Nourse, Kirby Mutton, Bianca Franklin, Rebecca Strachan and Katie Bradstock were all selected to represent their country in the Australian 21 & U team.

2002

  • The AIS have played in the NSW State League - the Victorian State League - South Australian State League since the start of the AIS Netball Program. The Program also has an International Tour each year taking in such countries as South Africa, Jamaica, England, Trinidad, Barbados and New Zealand. The AIS is the feed ground to the Australian Open Team and currently is the Australian 21/U Program and players such as Vicki Wilson, Peta Squire, Catherine Cox, Liz Ellis and many more have learnt their skills as a scholarship holder.

2001

  • The AIS team performed at a high standard to be the first AIS Netball Team to win their respective domestic competition taking out the Farmers Union League in South Australia. Natalie von Bertouch was awarded the Farmers Union League Best and Fairest Player Award and was also selected as Centre in their Team of the Year.
  • The AIS team won all of its games against the different provinces on a tour of South Africa. The team also had the opportunity to compete against the England Open Squad and the England Development Squad here in Australia.
  • The Australian 21 & Under series against New Zealand was conducted in June in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. Many of our AIS athletes were selected in the Australian 21/U Team that defeated New Zealand in the series 3 games to 1.
  • Jane Altschwager was selected into the Australian Open Team for the England and New Zealand Tours. Natalie von Bertouch was selected in the Australian Open Squad and six players were selected as invitees to the Australian Open Squad.
  • Jane Altschwager and Kimberlee Gilmour were part of Swifts who won the Commonwealth Bank Trophy in the National Netball League.
  • Jane Altschwager won the Gwen Benzie's Award and Sarah Barrett won the Anne Clark Award. Natalie von Bertouch won the team Best and Fairest Award and Andrea Booth won the Goal Shooting Award.

2000

  • By 2000 the changes were evident in the Program when the 2000 World Youth Cup Team was resident at the AIS.
  • The AIS won all of its games on a tour of New Zealand. This included a three test series against the 21 and under New Zealand team.
  • All of the AIS players (11) were selected in the World Youth Cup team who were victorious over Jamaica in Cardiff in the Grand Final.
  • The AIS were runners-up in the South Australian Dairy Farmers State League.  Cynna Neele, Jane Altschwager and Penny Wannop were selected in the 'Team of the Competition'.  Demelza Fellowes won the AIS best and fairest and the Gwen Benzie's Award; Kristy Doyle won the Anne Clark Award and Cynna Neele the Goal Shooting Award.

1999

  • In 1999 the AIS Netball Program changed its direction from a development program to the Elite Australian 21/U - AIS Netball Program. Current Australian 21/U Coach and former Australian Caption and Melbourne Phoenix Coach Norma Plummer, was appointed AIS Head Coach.
  • The AIS drew a series with Fiji in July, winning the first match 53-38 but losing the second 58-46.
  • The AIS were again runners-up in the Victorian State League narrowly losing the grand final 47-45. Cynna Neele won the Gwen Benzie's Award as the league's most outstanding athlete, and Sam Andrews won the Anne Clark Award.
  • Four scholarship holders were selected in the Australian 21 & Under team to tour the UK in November. The team was made up of AIS 2000 Netball scholarship holders and these four 1999 scholarship players.
  • The rest of the AIS squad also toured the UK, finishing runner up to Australia 21 & Under in a four team tournament, which also included NZ 21 & Under and England 21 & Under.
  • In a cliff-hanger match Australia, with eight former AIS scholarship holders in the team, won the final of the 1999 World Netball Championships against New Zealand in New Zealand.

1998

  • The AIS were runners up in the Dairy Farmers Victorian State League.
  • The AIS also played visiting international teams, The Americas and England. They beat The Americas in both games. Although losing all three matches in the series against England, the young Aussies played some hard and skilful netball.
  • The AIS players enjoyed big time exposure in matches against the Australian 21 & Under team prior to the Australian Open team's internationals. In the home Fisher & Paykel series Australia easily accounted for The Americas 3-0.
  • The AIS travelled to Singapore as sparring partners for the Australian team in its lead-up to the Commonwealth Games. Australia, with 7 former AIS scholarship holders in the team, won the first ever netball gold medal in a Commonwealth Games.
  • The AIS finished its year with a tour of Jamaica, winning a three Test series 2-1 against the Jamaican 21 & Under team.
  • Australia won a three match series against Jamaica, in Jamaica, after losing the first match. They then played two matches against Barbados winning both comfortably. Australia also won the Fisher & Paykel series including the Fisher & Paykel Cup in New Zealand 3-0.

1997

  • The AIS Netball team competed in one round of the Victorian State League winning 8 of its 10 matches. The main competition for the AIS was the NSW Dairy Farmers State League where they finished runners-up.
  • The AIS was successful in both matches played against the visiting New Zealand Academy of Sport, winning 54-43 and 53-48. The AIS also played a training match against the visiting South African Open team.
  • The year ended with a tour of the UK; AIS won 7 of their 9 matches including 2 wins against the England Talent Squad.

1996

  • Former AIS scholarship holders Sue Howie (captain) and Catherine Cox (vice captain) led the Australian 21 & Under side to victory in the 3rd World Youth Cup held in Vancouver Canada. The side contained three AIS scholarship holders and four former scholarship holders.
  • The Australian open team continued to build on its unbeaten run of 22 games that began in May 1994. The team played five internationals during the year winning all convincingly - the Milo Challenge v South Africa, Milo Cup v New Zealand (3 Tests) and Fisher & Paykel Cup v New Zealand.
  • AIS finished seventh in the Mobil Superleague, and played by invitation in the NSW State League Division 1 recording 9 wins and 7 losses.
  • In the annual AIS-Canterbury competition, held in New Zealand in August, AIS won the first match 50-26, but Canterbury won the remaining two matches 42-38 and 47-39 to win the series. Late in the year AIS toured South Africa for the first time. In the three week tour the AIS won 9 matches and lost 1.

1995

  • The Australian 21 & Under team, coached by former AIS head coach Gaye Teede, defeated New Zealand 21 & Under 2-1 in a three match series in Australia.
  • Three 1994 scholarship holders and two 1995 scholarship holders were chosen in the Australian Under 21 side that played New Zealand in June.
  • The AIS had a successful tour of the Caribbean, playing 11 matches for 8 wins and 2 losses, with one game washed out. By contrast, in the annual exchange with Canterbury, played in freezing and wet conditions outdoors in Christchurch, AIS lost all three matches.
  • The NSW State League provided week-in week-out competition on an invitational basis. The AIS recorded 5 wins and 8 losses.
  • Australia played South Africa, reinstated to international netball, for the Milo Cup, winning the series 3-0.
  • Australia then defended its world championship when it defeated South Africa 68-48 in Birmingham, UK. The team included eight former AIS scholarship holders.

1994

  • The AIS team participated in the Mobil Superleague and finished seventh. They also played by invitation in the NSW State League, for 8 wins and 5 losses to finish the preliminary rounds in equal fourth position.
  • Canterbury won the annual AIS/Canterbury exchange, held at the AIS, 2-0 with the third match finishing in an exciting draw. AIS toured New Zealand and the Cook Islands playing 3 matches in each country, and were undefeated.
  • Australia won the Milo Series against New Zealand in New Zealand 2-1. They also completed a 4-0 whitewash of Trinidad & Tobago in the Milo Cup.

1993

  • Australia won its first ever World Games title, defeating New Zealand by 26 goals in Holland. The team included eight former AIS players.
  • Australia also won the home Milo Cup Series against Jamaica 3-0.
  • The AIS toured the Cook Islands, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago, winning six matches and drawing one other.

1992

  • The AIS finished third in the Super League competition, and completed an unbeaten tour of England and Wales.
  • The 2nd World Youth Cup took place in Fiji, where the Australian team led by AIS player, Liz Ellis, finished second. Seven AIS players were in the side.

1991

  • Australia won a thrilling world championship final against New Zealand in Sydney by one goal. The team included seven former AIS scholarship holders.
  • The AIS were undefeated in a three match series against the New Zealand Young Internationals.
  • Australia won a home series 3-0 against New Zealand for the Kleenex Cup, and an away series 4-0 against Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago.

1990

  • Netball was a demonstration sport at the Auckland Commonwealth Games, where Australia won the gold medal. The team of ten included seven former AIS players.
  • Australia played two Tests against both New Zealand and England before losing to New Zealand in the final of the J & J Cup.
  • The AIS won the inaugural Oceania Netball Tournament in Fiji in July.
  • AIS athletes joined the All Australia Netball Association touring party to introduce netball to China, focusing on Beijing and Nanjing.
  • On a tour of the UK the AIS won all six Tests, against England (3), Scotland, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and four provincial matches.

1989

  • The AIS were runners-up to the Trinidad team, The Marvellites, in the inaugural Trinidad & Tobago International Netball Festival. The Australian team finished second at the World Games in Germany. Australia lost all three Tests against New Zealand, in New Zealand, for the Milo Series, but returned home to win all four Tests against the West Indies in the J & J Cup.

1988

  • The AIS team was undefeated in a three-Test series against New Zealand Young Internationals and games against national Under 21 and Under 25 teams in Barbados and Trinidad. The first World Youth cup was played in Canberra with nine AIS players in the winning side. Australia completed the year with an undefeated tour which included two tests.  Played Trinidad Tobago for the Johnson and Johnson Cup, drew first 2 games and won the next two.

1987

  • The AIS won three back-to-back competitions, against WAIS, the New Zealand touring Internationals and an eight match series in England. The Australian team finished second at the world tournament in Glasgow with 10 AIS representatives.

1986

  • The AIS team returned unbeaten from a tour of the West Indies.
  • Australia played in the Milo tri-nation Test series against New Zealand and Jamaica, in New Zealand. Of the six Tests played Australia won 4, lost 1 and drew 1.
  • The same nations played a further six Tests in Australia for the Prudential Cup in which Australia won 3, lost 2 and drew 1. Australia completed the year with an undefeated tour of England, including two Test victories. AIS scholarship holders had 5 members representing Australia.
  • In domestic competition, the AIS retained the Esso Super League title and also won the Easter national club competition.

1985

  • At the Australia Games in Melbourne, Australia finished second in the international netball tournament involving Australia, New Zealand, Trinidad/Tobago and England. Five AIS scholarship holders played in this team.
  • The AIS team toured Northern Ireland and England, the highlight of which was a win against the England national team at Wembley.
  • At the 1st World Games held at Crystal Palace in London, Australia finished second to New Zealand. Five team members were current or former AIS scholarship holders.

1984

  • The AIS won the second World Club Championships in Hawaii and also toured the Caribbean. The under 21 Australian team toured New Zealand and were undefeated.  Nine members of this team had scholarships at the AIS.

1983

  • Australia won the world tournament in Singapore. The team contained four former AIS scholarship holders: Sue Hawkins, Chris Harris, Karen Smith(Bullock) and Jane Searle.
  • The AIS had a successful tour of the UK, and beat the England Under 21 team at Wembley.

1982

  • Four of the Australian team that toured New Zealand were former AIS players.

1981

  • The Group A team drew with the England national team in Canberra then won the inaugural World Club Championship in Hawaii. Sue Hawkins and Karen Bullock were selected in the national team. The AIS completed a tour of Malaysia.
