Netball - Game 3 - AIS 56 defeats Jamaican 21 & U 31

A tough encounter is what this game promised to be and it lived up to everyone’s expectations. The AIS will be playing  world number four  Jamaican 21 & U team in a series of three matches during this tour. This game proved to be the most physical encounter the  ‘tute has encountered so far but again the Aussies were prepared for the various “tactics” the locals will try to use to put the girls off their game.

Head Coach Simone McKinnis made only one change to the previous starting line up with shooter Ashlee Howard replacing the unwell Kimberly Borger. Laura Scherian has unexpectedly become a local favourite receiving loud cheers from the crowd when her name was announced at the start of the game.

Despite  various attempts by the Jamaican team to slow down the game by calling numerous “ injury times, the AIS maintained their focus leading at every break.

Coach McKinnis was very impressed with the way her charges weathered the challenges thrown up by the Jamaicans and credited the win to a good team performance. Laura Scherian and Rachel Forbes yet again were outstanding in the centre court and goal attack Ashlee Howard provided consistency in the circle despite being put under constant pressure by the local defenders.

The team will have a well earned rest day today and have an opportunity to experience some of the local colourful culture
