The AIS signed a contract with Sports Technology International (STI) for the installation of a new state-of-the-art ‘FIFA Two Star’ certified turf surface on the outdoor synthetic football pitch.
STI specialises in the design, construction and installation of ‘sports surfaces built for performance’ including this LigaTurf RS+ 240 CoolPlus pitch.
Work on this upgrade will commence from 3 March. This is the first upgrade to the outdoor football pitches synthetic surface since 2000.
General Manager of the Corporate Operations Division, Steve Jones joined STI National Sales Manager, Rob Kirkwood and Australian Matildas player, Lydia Williams at the announcement.
Speaking at the signing, Steve Jones said Australian men’s and women’s footballers will benefit from training on the FIFA Two Star surface in preparation for international competition.
‘This will be a good opportunity for Australian footballers to train on a top quality surface.’
‘The Australian Matildas women’s football team will also use the new FIFA Two Star pitch in preparation for the FIFA 2015 World Cup in Canada, which will be played on the same surface,’ Steve said.
‘It will be a great opportunity for us to have one of the best [football] fields in Australia in preparation for the FIFA World Cup in 2015,' Lydia said.
This facility is expected to generate further commercial opportunities for the AIS due to demand from national football teams.
The new state-of-the-art pitch surface will be made from environmentally-friendly yarns and materials.
The upgraded pitch is due to be completed in April 2014.
