Volleyballer learns to coach online

Indigenous athlete, Bridgette Kirby, a 16 year old volleyballer from Condobolin in NSW central west, was the 25,000th person to enrol for the Beginning Coaching General Principles online course.

Kirby completed the course as part of her scholarship with the Girri Girri Sports Academy.

‘I found it really interesting and it was good to learn about all the different things you need to know as a coach,’ Kirby said.

Kirby would like to see more Indigenous teenagers become involved in sport and coaching.

‘Sport is so much a part of my life and it is so good for you. I’d love to see more kids doing it.’

Kirby sees herself moving into coaching in the next few years and is aiming to get to the top of her sport, either as a player, or a coach.

The Beginning Coaching General Principles online course is available free of charge to Australian residents and provides beginner coaches the chance to complete some training at a time and location that suits them.

The course contains five modules, covering a range of general coaching topics and takes approximately six hours to complete. Completing the course can provide the first step towards accreditation in a sport.
