The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has released a new coaching manual to assist in the training of coaches.

The new Intermediate Coaching manual is for the coach who has moved beyond the beginner level of coaching and wants to improve their skills and knowledge to improve athlete performance.

The manual supports the new Intermediate Coaching General Principles program which is being rolled out nationally in 2008. It includes a simple introduction to sport science concepts and the essential coaching skills of planning, management, safety, learning and teaching processes and individualisation.

Intermediate Coaching consists of 13 chapters, and is written in an applied manner with a range of case studies and examples to assist coaches in their learning.  A range of coaching practitioners, sports scientists, coach educators and academics were involved in writing the manual, including a number of Australian Institute of Sport specialists.

The manual is available for sale through ASC Publishing at a cost of $25.  Orders can be made via pubs@ausport.gov.au
