Towards better sport: good practice

Towards better sport: Good practice for women and girls is a manual that features strategies and initiatives that have been implemented by organisations in Australia and internationally to increase the participation of women and girls in a variety of roles in sport.

Research shows that there has been very little change over the past 10 years in the participation of women and girls in all aspects of sport, and that women remain under-represented at all levels in coaching, officiating and leadership.

Data on the participation of women in sport over this period also indicates a major shift away from participation in organised sport towards participation in informal activities.

Towards better sport: Good practice for women and girls is an important reference tool for the sports industry. The strategies and initiatives presented in this manual are intended to assist the sport industry in attracting, retaining and increasing girls and women’s participation in all aspects of sport. These strategies and initiatives have been implemented by organisations in Australia and internationally to increase the participation of women and girls in a variety of roles in sport.
