United In Planning: The Approach for LA28 & Beyond

The first phase of a united process to National Sport Organisation (NSO) Planning, Monitoring and Review (PMR) has been released to assist sports preparing for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

A LA2028 planning guide has been provided to recognised NSOs around the planning process, including milestones and engagement with high performance system partners.

The planning process is designed to support the delivery of the high performance system’s united vision to win well, achieve sustainable success, as well as increase transparency, consistency and provide optimal performance.

Over the past six months, an Advisory Group and Working Group made up of people from across the high performance sport system have been refining and extending the foundations of the planning process.

Adam Sachs, Shooting Australia CEO and Advisory Group member, said: “The end outcome of the process has been a really useful, practical document for high performance staff and organisations across our system. I’m really looking forward to taking this into my organisation to guide the critical conversations that we need to have internally and then with our system partners”.

Phase One of the Planning, Monitoring and Review project focused solely on high-level planning which included ‘What It Takes To Win’ profiling, integrated High Performance Strategy, Operational Planning, Operational Costing, plus the Annual Check-In process that was occurring concurrently within the Paris Monitoring and Review process.

The project's second phase is also coming to completion which explores the sport specific competition debriefing, pinnacle event debriefing, MOUs and partnership agreements and sport specific athlete categorisation guidelines. It’s expected that this work will be shared in early 2024 and phase three will commence in February 2024.
