Women’s AFL star and Olympic basketballer Erin Phillips will discuss gender equity and the rise of women’s sport at Our Sporting Future 2017 (OSF17), kicking off tomorrow at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Phillips is among a list of stellar speakers for OSF17 which includes:

  • Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins on gender equity in sport
  • Author and former Australian Wallabies representative Peter FitzSimons on the benefits of sport, and
  • CEO Qantas Loyalty & Digital Jayne Hrdlicka on leadership and responding to change

OSF is a major Australian sporting conference held every two years by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and the Committee of Australian Sport and Recreation Officials (CASRO). Tourism and Events Queensland are the host sponsor.

ASC CEO Kate Palmer said it is an important chance for the sport sector to focus on sport participation and strengthening Australia’s sporting organisations.

“Sport is of enormous value to Australians for our health, wellbeing, social interaction, economy and global image,” Palmer said. “As a sector we must always adapt and grow to ensure that value continues to rise.

“The Gold Coast will become a focus of international high performance sport when it hosts the Commonwealth Games in April next year, but we’re gathering here now to put the priority on innovation and ideas for sport participation at the grassroots level.”

Olympian Nicole Livingstone will MC the program, which also features workshops in crucial areas such as physical literacy, re-engaging teenagers in sport and child safe sport.

Other conference highlights include:

  • The Power of Sport - a discussion on Our Watch’s Sports Engagement Program, addressing issues such as domestic violence, racism, homophobia, mental health and disability.
  • Natasha Pincus sharing leadership insights into the production of Gotye’s award winning music video
  • Former Australian cricketer Belinda Clark sharing Cricket Australia’s ground-breaking data-driven junior development program.
  • A keynote by Scott Dinsdale, Managing Director, Accenture, on digital strategies for sport.
  • Paralympic gold medallist Curtis McGrath will share his inspiring story at conference farewell luncheon

OSF17 will also feature the ASC’s Commercially Sustainable Sports Forum, designed for CEOs and Commercial Managers from sports organisations to connect with commercialisation experts.  The full OSF17 program is available here.
