QLD hosts final Play Well workshop

Almost 300 people have attended workshops held across the country to discuss how to put Play Well – Australia’s National Sport Participation Strategy into action.

The workshops were delivered by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) in partnership with sector stakeholders with the final in-person event held in Brisbane last week.

The events were an opportunity for stakeholders from across the sport participation system to come together to discuss the Play Well Implementation Plan which details the priority activities to be completed this financial year.

Attendees also spoke about how to create a culture of sport in schools, how to modernise and create positive environments in sport and how they want sport participation to look after Brisbane 2032.

Ipswich City Council’s Ashley Crasto said he found the workshop really valuable.

“I loved hearing a diverse range of ideas and perspectives and I'm looking forward to engaging in future events and discussions. I actively engage with community and co-design programs on the ground, so there were a lot of insightful takeaways that will shape our team's future strategy and design,” he said.

While the in-person roadshows have finished, the ASC are also running online sessions for those who could not attend in-person. The next session will take place on Wednesday 23 October, 7pm – 8.30pm and include a Play Well update and two workshops on creating positive environments in community sport and how we can modernise sport.

The ASC thanks participants for their attendance and valuable contributions to the workshop discussions. This feedback will be used to help us deliver the Play Well projects to ensure that everyone has a place in sport.

Queensland was the last venue to host a Play Well workshop to discuss how to put the strategy into action.
