Many volunteers want to know what's in it for them, so understanding and using this positive narrative to underpin your recruitment strategy is an important step in getting more people involved

Clubs provide much more than what happens on field. Understanding the unique benefits and opportunities your club offers can help you when it comes to finding new volunteers and matching them to the right task.

As a starting point, volunteering provides a range of benefits including:

  • Creating new friendships
  • Being part of a community
  • Gaining new skills
  • Provides a sense of purpose
  • Contributing and giving back

Asking potential volunteers to dedicate their time to your club can be challenging. Understanding and using this positive narrative to underpin your recruitment strategy will be more effective.

To best communicate what your club can offer volunteers, ask your current volunteers how they have benefited from their experience. Use this information to promote volunteering at your club when advertising or talking to potential volunteers and helpers.

TIP: Include in a survey to current volunteers 'What do you love about volunteering at the club?' or 'Have you gained anything by volunteering at the club?'
