The AIS Arena will once again come alive with kids activities, sport demonstrations and challenges, big screens and bean bags when it hosts a Paralympics LIVE Watch Party this Saturday 31 August from 10am to 2pm.

The ASC will host a Paralympics LIVE Watch Party this weekend.

The newly refurbished AIS Arena was chosen as the ACT’s Olympics and Paralympics LIVE Site for Paris 2024 with more than 1,500 people stopping by the multi-purpose and fully accessible venue earlier this month for a fun filled day out.

Similar to the Olympics LIVE event, Canberrans will be able to watch the live broadcast and replays of the Paralympic Games via Channel 9 on the big screen, try sports including basketball, bocce and wheelchair rugby league, and send a message of support to our Paralympic team in Paris.

There will be plenty of giveaways, face painting, colouring-in, free site tours and access to the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) interactive sports exhibit, Sportex.

The French Embassy will host a French quiz while Mix 106.3 will bring their prize wheel with Team Australia gear up for grabs.

ASC CEO Kieren Perkins OAM said the ASC was pleased to host another LIVE event.

“The Olympics LIVE Watch Party was a huge success and a wonderful opportunity to showcase our new look venue,” he said.

“It has been fantastic to see such high demand to use our facilities for a range of community and sporting events and we look forward to the Canberra community making use of the AIS Arena in the coming months.”

Olympians Kim Brennan (rowing), Georgia Godwin (gymnastics) and Brendon Reading (race walking) and Paralympians Sue Powell (cycling), Louise Ellery (shot put) and Richard Nicholson (wheelchair racing) will also be on deck to chat to local residents about their sporting journey and how they got involved in their chosen sport.

Perkins said he hoped the event would inspire our future Olympians and Paralympians to chase their own sporting dreams.

“Events like these are a great way to bring the community together to celebrate our current Paralympians who are doing us proud in Paris but also light the fire for the next generation of athletes who could be wearing the green and gold in Brisbane in eight years’ time.”
