Athletes encouraged to take part in 2025 AIS Mental Fitness Program
The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is on the hunt for twenty athlete ambassadors to take part in their renowned Mental Fitness Program (MFP) in 2025.

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is on the hunt for twenty athlete ambassadors to take part in their renowned Mental Fitness Program (MFP) in 2025.
Australian Beach Volleyball star Solomon Bushby delivered eight mental health sessions to students throughout 2024.
The appointed athletes will become mental health advocates and deliver talks to students across the country throughout the year.
Each athlete will first undertake training with the Black Dog Institute, opens in a new tab who have been a vested partner in this program since it was established in 2020.
To date more than 80 athletes have taken part in the program and the impact it’s had on both their personal and professional lives has been remarkable.
For Hockeyroos goalkeeper Aleisha Power it’s opened the door to a new world.
“After applying for the MFP program in 2023 I discovered my passion for mental health and community. Since then I have nearly completed my Masters in Counselling.
“I have been able to go out into the community and have an impact on students in Western Australia while developing the skills and confidence in myself that I will use in future practice, which is something I am really proud of,” said Power.
Australian Beach Volleyball star Solomon Bushby believes the program has made him a better teammate.
“The MFP has positively impacted the way I approach my teammates at training throughout the week. It has given me more awareness of being empathetic towards others around me and talking to them if needed.”
Over the last four years AIS ambassadors have connected with more than 60,000 students Australia-wide and are in agreeance that the sessions are incredibly rewarding.
“The most fun has come from the end of presentations when students come up and ask questions or tell stories about themselves,” said Bushby.
“Sometimes they are curious about certain aspects of the Black Dog Institute content and other times they are interested in what to do with their own situations. Helping them has been very fulfilling."
A sentiment Power agrees with.
“Being able to walk away knowing that kids are being empowered with skills and information relevant to helping themselves and those around them is the biggest highlight.”
