First Paralympic track and field athletes named for Paris

Paralympics Australia has named the first members of the Para-athletics team to represent our country in Paris.
Michal Burian, Vanessa Low, Angus Hincksman, Michael Roeger, James Turner, Mali Lovell and Reece Langdon receiving their tickets to Paris.
Chef de Mission Kate McLoughlin congratulated five-time Paralympian Michael Roeger, Tokyo gold medallists James Turner and Vanessa Low, and 2020 silver medallist Michal Burian on their selection with the announcement held at the AIS Track this morning.
Joining the Australian team are three newcomers: Mali Lovell, Angus Hincksman and Reece Langdon.
Also receiving her ticket to Paris is Madison de Rozario, who won two gold medals at Tokyo. She is returning home after coming fourth in the women’s wheelchair event at the London marathon.
“It’s an absolute dream come true to be able to call myself a Paralympian,” Langdon, a middle-distance runner, said.
“I hope I can do my friends and family proud.”

Roeger, who trains at the AIS under coach Philo Saunders said he is feeling proud to be representing his country again, having turned his attention to the 1500m.
“I’m hoping this will be our most successful Games yet,” Roeger added, who also works at the Australian Sports Commission as a Digital Content Officer at the Clearinghouse for Sport.
“They are more than just athletes, they are ambassadors for our country and our sport,” Athletics Australia CEO Peter Bromley said.
Also in attendance was Paralympics Australia President Alison Creagh and on hand to present the athletes with their Qantas ticket, coat of arms and a golden beret was Paralympian Richard Nicholson.
The Para-athletics athletes join three canoeists, three-time Paralympic gold medallist Curtis McGrath, Susan Seipel who won bronze at Rio 2016 and silver at Tokyo 2020 and three-time Paralympian Dylan Littlehales on the Australian team.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games officially begins on 28 August. The athletics program runs from August 30 to September 8.
