Nominations have now opened for the 2024 ASPAs, an annual awards ceremony that celebrates the outstanding achievements of athletes, teams, coaches, volunteers and leaders in Australian high performance sport.

With the ASPAs to recognise not only the feats from the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but the successes of winter athletes gearing up for Milano Cortina 2026, Australian Sports Commission CEO Kieren Perkins OAM said this year’s awards is set to be a blockbuster.

“However you measure it, 2024 has been an incredible success, with our athletes topping the world in a wide range of sports,” Perkins said.

“But on top of the Olympic and Paralympic medals and world championship wins, we will also be celebrating how our athletes win well.

“I am proud that the ASPAs are judged not only on results, but how an individual, team, or sport aligns to our united commitment to win well, which is the key to balancing performance and wellbeing in the lead up to Brisbane 2032 and beyond.”

The finalists for all 13 awards are nominated by national sporting organisations and state and territory sport institutes and academies, with a new award, the Service to Sport Award, added this year to recognise the long-term dedication and contribution by an individual to sport.

Perkins also welcomed the return of the Volunteer of the Year award, which has been celebrated at the ASPAs for the past two years.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of Australian sport and with our home Games in Brisbane just eight years away, I’m very pleased that we will once again be honouring them alongside our Olympians and Paralympians,” he said.

Nominations are open until Wednesday October 23, with the full guidelines and criteria available on the AIS website: www.ais.gov.au/events/aspas

Finalists will be announced in November, with the winners to be unveiled at a gala dinner in Melbourne on December 4.
