The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) campus in Canberra is gearing up to host almost 400 of the best and brightest from across the Australian high performance sport system for the nation’s premier sport conference, World Class to World Best (WC2WB).

With a focus on “Building sustainable success for Paris and beyond”, more than 50 sports and sporting organisations have registered for WC2WB 2023, which will feature three days of learning and collaboration from Tuesday 31 October to Thursday 2 November.

WC2WB 2023 will build on Australia’s High Performance 2032+ Sport Strategy (HP2032+ Strategy) - the first co-designed strategy which unites the sport sector in the pursuit to build an inclusive and sustainable sporting system.

The Minister for Sport, The Hon Anika Wells MP, will open proceedings on Tuesday morning, while the four keynote speakers - Paralympian and accessibility advocate Dylan Alcott AO; VFL Assistant Coach and First Nations Wellbeing worker Jacara Egan, Thai cave rescue diver Dr Richard Harris SC OAM, and big wave surfer Mark Mathews - will address the core values underpinning the Strategy: Excellence, Belonging, Courage, and Connection, and how they enable our athletes and sports to win well and inspire Australians.

The conference will be hosted by former Australian Rugby 7s player and NITV and SBS journalist Tanisha Williams. Tanisha is a proud proud Gamilaraay Yuwaalaraay woman whose family hails from north-west NSW and is one of the 2023 AIS Share a Yarn Mentors.

With the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in focus, and one eye on the green and gold runway towards Brisbane 2032, WC2WB 2023 will also explore key issues and innovations surrounding sport, including concussion, the intersection of female athlete consideration, and ESports.
