The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has announced a new name for the biggest refresh of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Campus in more than four decades.
An artist impression of the indoor Sport Dome that will provide 24/7 all-weather training facilities for track and field sports. It is one of the three key high performance sport facilities to be constructed as part of the AIS Podium Project.
Previously referred to as the AIS Site Revitalisation Project, the AIS Podium Project will see three new key high performance sport facilities constructed at the Canberra Campus:
Together, these new buildings form the core of our investment in the future of high performance sport — facilities designed to support athletes on their journey to the podium at Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and world championship events.
The previous project title suggested a full-campus redevelopment. In reality, this project only represents a targeted investment in critical areas of high performance sport infrastructure.
The AIS Podium Project is the first stage in delivery of the broader AIS Campus Masterplan - the ASC’s long-term vision to ensure the AIS Campus continues to evolve as Australia’s world leading high performance sport precinct.
