These resources have been developed by the National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC) to help everyone in the community to better understand the warning signs, or red flags, and be in a stronger position to support athletes and others to seek help if they need.

8 Tips for Dealing with an Eating Disorder booklet

Young people go through periods of great change biologically, physically and psychologically. These changes can be stressful and can lead to feelings of insecurity or self-consciousness, which can increase the risk of developing an eating disorder. Although the onset of an eating disorder can occur at any age, it is most common in young people. This resource provides young people with some helpful tips about dealing with eating disorders and promotes the importance of help seeking.

Both males and females engaged in competitive physical activities, including sports, fitness and dance, have increased rates of body dissatisfaction, disordered eating and eating disorders.

The NEDC has developed resources to assist sports and fitness professionals.

Sports and Fitness Professionals early intervention advice 

Coaches, trainers and other fitness professionals are at the frontline when it comes to noticing changes in their athletes and clients, including when it comes to detecting early signs and symptoms of eating issues and disorders.

Fitness professionals, therefore, play a vital role in enabling early intervention, which means helping to prevent any eating issues from developing further, with better long term outcomes for treatment.

General Practitioners (GPs) are likely to be one of the first health professionals a person with an eating disorder will come in contact with.
