The Iceberg Model of Behaviour

The Iceberg Model of Behaviour

Achieving different results requires changing behaviour. Increase your chances of successful change by understanding the range of potential influences on those behaviours.

What you will learn

Supporting the development of other people can be tricky, especially when we consider only the behaviours we can see and the results those behaviours achieve. If the person we are supporting is not achieving the results they want, is it as simple as telling them to change their behaviours? Would we use that approach on ourselves and expect it to work?

This model describes:

  • The types of things that influence our behaviours (and the behaviours of the people we support).
  • A view of what effective approaches to change behaviour might look like in light of these many influences.
