Supporting Others The Supporting Others resources are designed to enable and empower people to provide on the job, developmental support to coaches and officials. This will help create safe learning environments that positively impact the quality of participant experiences. The animated videos and supplementary resources can be used in both informal development contexts and formal mentoring, facilitation and educator training programs. This is not meant to be a complete and prescriptive suite of tools. We encourage you to use the tools and techniques that best suit you and your context when developing coaches and officials. Follow these three steps: Watch the videos to learn how to improve your personal interaction skills when supporting coaches and officials in your Club. Refer to the User Guide accompanying each animation which provides useful application tips and tools for different learning environments. Use the Action Learning Guide below to practice applying the models and techniques in your specific context and situation. Asking Powerful Questions Develop a better understanding of the people you work with by remaining curious and asking questions, rather than stating your opinion and telling people what to do. Listening with Intent Become an expert listener by using the five levels of listening model to shift from merely hearing words to listening to what is – and isn’t – being said. Building a Psychologically Safe Environment Employ a series of strategies to create psychological safety for your team, optimising the environment for people to learn and thrive in pursuit of team outcomes. The Iceberg Model of Behaviour Achieving different results requires changing behaviour. Increase your chances of successful change by understanding the range of potential influences on those behaviours. The Ladder of Inference If, after resolving a misunderstanding, you've ever found yourself saying, "Oh, that's not what I thought was going on", there's a good chance you climbed the Ladder of Inference and acted on flawed thinking. The Grow Model The task of leading effective developmental conversations is made easier using the GROW Model - a clear, flexible structure that ensures you cover all the important parts of the conversation. GRIP Feedback and Feed Forward Models Supporting coaches and officials in practice requires skills to observe objectively and to have reflective feedback conversations. The GRIP feedback and 'feedforward' models are simple tools to encourage self-reflection and to identify areas for improvement.
